out of the mouths of… still the best one

I was reminded of this story today and of all the “out of the mouths of” posts, this is still the best one ever.  What makes it awesome is that it truly happened just this way.

Several months after Emily gave birth to Nina, I was walking down the hall at work. Two elderly residents were walking together behind me.  I heard their entire (shouted) conversation because, well, because they were shouting because neither of them could hear.  This was their conversation:

Sadie: That’s the rabbi.  She just had a baby.

Sophie:  I don’t remember her being pregnant.

Sadie: Not her.  Her husband!

Sophie:  Her husband?! I thought she was a man?!

Great story, reminds me of trying to explain the case of the pregnant trans man to a straight friend.
Are you really a rabbi? Reform or Reconstructionist?
